Limited Edition Black Heavy Weight (180g) Vinyl LP of Mike Kuster’s debut studio album, “Better Late Than Never” represents “Great Traditional Country the way it should be done!” Mike shares his passion for Country Music with song writing and music that is honest, open, and Country to the core," according to Saving Country Music. The album has bee named one of 2022's Essential Albums by SavingCountryMusic.com, one of the 15 "Must Have Albums of 2022" by The Balcony Show, and Country Music France's Top 20 Album of 2022. "To sing country, you have to live country, and that’s what makes the music of Mike Kuster so much more meaningful. It comes with that real life, lived-in and loved aspect that you just don’t get from the antiseptic and formulaic notions of big radio singles. These are songs cut straight from life, yet give up nothing when it comes to quality and instrumentation compared to major label releases. It’s the personal and true-to-life stories that Mike Kuster puts to song that make Better Late Than Never much more than just a local project from a local singer, even if it’s the local flavor of the songs that make them so resonant, sincere, and so distinctly country like country music is supposed to be. That is why local country artist Mike Kuster deserves national and international attention." - SavingCountryMusic.com

about

My daughter started wearing my blue jean jacket to school everyday. The tattered and torn jacket had been worn for nearly thirty years.

I kept teasing her about wearing that old tattered and torn jacket, but she has such a personality of her own that she didn't care. So, I told her I was writing a song about it.

The first iteration was too personal, but the story of a girl wearing her daddy's jacket stuck. So, I wrote it with a different perspective. I put the main character in a slightly different view.

Like my daughter, she would be born after 9-11. Unlike my daughter, her father would have become a hero dying on the battlefields of the War on Terror. The jacket would be her reminder of her father and all the love he had for her.

Not only would any prospective suitor have to deal with the strong girl in the jacket, but he'd have to attempt to measure up to the man who wore the jacket before her.

lyrics

Ain’t a boy at school that would take a chance
Cause when Kate walks by you can feel the air
Go eerily cold, raise the hair on your neck
She could kill your nerve with a single glance.
Her short blonde hair and baby blues
Make her look invitin’ but it’s just a ruse
Everybody in town knows her family’s name
And a hero’s little girl who’s name is Kate.
She wears a blue jean jacket that is old and worn
Like a signal just to warn you
she’s expecting more.

She’s a rebel with a freckle and a pretty smile
But that jacket on her back is tattered and torn.
So if you’re tryin’ to impress her, Son,
you’ve been warned.
She wears her daddy’s blue jean jacket
cause she’s expecting more.
She was born in the wake of a fateful day.
He vowed to protect her and his family.
So he joined up, they sent him far away.
She never saw him again, but his loves remains.
When she was a little girl her daddy went to war
She remembers all the love and how he held her tight.
His love for her still echoes in her every day
in that jacket on her back that he always wore.
She wears a blue jean jacket that is old and worn
Like a signal just to warn you she’s expecting more.
She’s a rebel with a freckle and a pretty smile
But that jacket on her back is tattered and torn.
(Instrumental Solo)
So if you’re tryin’ to impress her, Son, you’ve been warned.
She wears her daddy’s blue jean jacket
cause she’s expecting more.
She wears a blue jean jacket that is old and worn
Like a signal just to warn you she’s expecting more.
She’s a rebel with a freckle and a pretty smile
But that jacket on her back is tattered and torn.

She wears her daddy’s blue jean jacket
cause she’s expecting more.
